The voices in the next room carry through.
Regardless of the words, the sound is love -
The trusting, selfish kind, the promise of
A bond to last the dark between the blue.
The music of the next room holds my chest.
I feel a tightness grow with every chime -
A set of lives so different from my time,
And infinitely finer than my best.
To join would mean pollution of their song,
A weak companion waiting for his call;
The safest thing to do is run away.
But I hate silence more than being wrong,
And half-heard melodies beat none at all.
It's me that's in the next room, and I'll stay.
Pygmalion was dealt the cruellest curse.
With his delusion fed by Pity's grace,
He never learnt to love a human face.
If winning ends in losing, which is worse?
What harm is there when worthless things are sold?
Resigned to see it through, the part he played,
Alone within his hall Andvari made
The choice to set his brightest dreams in gold.
Whose chapter should I join - where best to end?
To take my gifts, and flee inside their joy;
Or own the trade, stare down that love foregone.
Will beauty be enough without a friend?
To tame a star, but know it's just a toy.
I can't foresee which path lets me move on.
The voices in the next room carry through.
Regardless of the words, the sound is love -
The trusting, selfish kind, the promise of

It's the middle of the year, which means I have no classes and no work. I've bought myself a tin of watercolour pencils, but I don't see that holding me over until next semester - expect eruptions of output.
I've made cakes for years as a hobby, slowly getting better. Now it's reached the point where I'm getting requests. I figured I'd start sharing on here, in the hope of getting some extra tips. The internet's cool like that.
