My gingerbread windmill, complete with blades that turn on their very own candy cane axle. It was so much fun to build, from first calculating all the angles on my template to finally adding the fan this afternoon.
Stats:
7 days to complete, working around my real job (without hassle) and around other family members (with lots of hassle - people were banished from the kitchen at all hours).
10 pieces of gingerbread - 5 walls for the tower, a platform for the cabin, and then four pieces for the walls of that. The roof tiles are two sheets of chocolate I made.
3 batches of royal icing - one for the white highlights and the snowman, one for flooding the pieces blue, and the third for joining the whole thing together.
About half a kilo of chocolate for windows, the door, the blades, and the scrolling on the walls.
The full thing's about 11 inches tall and 7 inches across at the base.
Casualty list:
1. My finger

. While resizing the cane the knife slipped.
...Well, really I just like food. And I have a massive sweet tooth.
Ummm... Gee, I don't know. Anything orange-flavoured is good; so's anything chocolate; and what I really like at any time of the day or year is purple icy-poles.
