The Boatman Waits...

I don't know where this one came from, but once he was in my head Charon was there to stay. I looked him up a bit and found this image of a winged demon of death - far cry from the sulky boatman of the underworld.
I let him keep his wings, and his superior expression. I'd like to think that on the final voyage there're some in-your-face witticisms to tide you along. And the hammer, too - even though it's from a later incarnation of the legend, he may have use for it. Perhaps some people don't like to pay up front.

Speaking of the hammer, accounts all give the impression of a tremendous and fearful war club. Apparently, this translated to my untrustworthy subconscious as a croquet mallet.
